A product’s lifecycle starts with concept and design, and moves through several stages: development and manufacture, sales, growth, maturity, decline, and where possible, recapture or recycling. Managing your product’s lifecycle – from conception to disuse – will save time and money in development and improve efficiency when going to market. When it comes to manufacturing, having a product lifecycle planned out can mean shortening development times and knowing when production may need to be increased or reduced. Product lifecycle management can even help to close the loop on a product’s lifecycle with ITAD (IT Asset Disposition), where some materials found in returned/retired products mean components can be captured and reused or recycled. This approach to product lifecycle management can cut costs and provide customers with the kind of sustainable product they are looking for.
As an award-winning EMC, PRIDE Industries can offer a lifecycle product management system that includes expertise in design and development to reduce product cost, end-of-life support, ITAD, and recycling that contributes to closed-loop sustainability.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a comprehensive approach used to manage the entire lifecycle of a product from its initial conception through design, manufacturing, distribution, use, and ultimately, its end of life.
PLM software is typically utilized during the design stages of a PCB or electronic device to identify soon-to-be obsolete components or technology. PLM software can be an excellent tool for PCBA when used together with the expertise of qualified engineers to manage the PCB’s lifecycle.
Why is product lifecycle management important? By providing a centralized repository for product-related data, including design documents, engineering specifications, BOMs, CAD models, etc., PLM can streamline processes, reduce product development time and facilitate the effective management of product-related data throughout the entire product lifecycle.
PLM stages are concept, design and development, manufacturing and production, marketing and sales, use and maintenance, and finally end of life. Note that end-of-life does not always mean disposal as more and more companies wish to implement sustainable solutions such as recycling and reuse.
Yes, Product Lifecycle Management is the same as PLM.
A good PLM solution will integrate tools and processes that lead to greater efficiency for any product but there is no one-size-fits-all PLM strategy. A specialized medical or military product may need components that will last a decade or more whereas a device such as a phone is likely to have a far shorter component lifecycle.
