ROSEVILLE – PRIDE Industries is pleased to announce the appointment of Claire Pomeroy, MD, MBA to its board of directors. Pomeroy is Chief Executive Officer, UC Davis Health System, UC Davis Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences, and Dean of UC Davis’ School of Medicine.

“Dr. Pomeroy is a dynamic leader and a champion for underserved populations,” said Michael Ziegler, President and CEO of PRIDE Industries. “Her tremendous knowledge, passion and unique strengths will help PRIDE advance its vision of social enterprise while creating meaningful jobs for people with disabilities.”

Pomeroy is an expert in infectious diseases and a professor of internal medicine and microbiology and immunology. She oversees UC Davis Health System and all of its academic, research and clinical programs, including the School of Medicine, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, the 1,000-member physician practice group and UC Davis Medical Center.

Pomeroy founded the Center for Reducing Health Disparities and led the establishment of Rural-PRIME, a program designed to prepare physicians to practice in underserved rural communities. She is the principal investigator for the NIH-funded Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program. As a long-time advocate for patients with HIV/AIDS, she has a special interest in healthcare policy and has led efforts to advance electronic health records to improve health care.

She is a member of the Independent Citizens Oversight Commission that governs the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the stem cell initiative approved by California voters in 2004. She is chair-elect of the board of directors of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC), chair of the Council of Deans of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), on the advisory committee for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Research on Women’s Health Advisory Committee and on the board of governors for the Foundation for Biomedical Research. She was inducted into the Institute of Medicine in 2011.

Pomeroy received bachelors and medical degrees from the University of Michigan and completed her residency and fellowship training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota. She earned an MBA from the University of Kentucky. Prior to her move to UC Davis, she held faculty positions at the University of Minnesota and the University of Kentucky. She served as associate dean for research and informatics at the University of Kentucky and as a member of its board of trustees.

“As a professional and a member of the greater Sacramento community for nearly a decade, I have seen first-hand PRIDE Industries’ commitment to its people, and the positive impact the organization makes in the communities it serves,” says Pomeroy. “I am honored to serve on its board of directors and look forward to helping this inspiring organization expand its visibility, reach and effectiveness.”
