PRIDE and Chicago PPE

Alan Cook, co-founder of the electronic, self-cleaning puppy pad BrilliantPad, never thought he’d be selling medical supplies. But when the coronavirus pandemic hit, Alan wanted to help. When he learned that his factory partner – also a healthcare equipment manufacturer — had ramped up its production of surgical masks, Alan saw his chance. He and his team created Chicago PPE, a national distributor of face masks, and asked PRIDE Industries to be their domestic shipping partner.

About Chicago PPE

Chicago PPE was created in 2020 to help meet the domestic need for personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. In its first month of operation, Chicago PPE imported and distributed over 3 million face masks, and continues to supply this lifesaving gear to medical facilities in several states.

The Challenge

When Alan Cook and his team first launched Chicago PPE, they used word of mouth to let people know they were importing face masks. Even with the low-key launch, the company garnered orders for 200,000 face masks within the first 48 hours. It was clear that on-time, efficient shipping was going to be critical to Chicago PPE’s success. Given PRIDE Industries’ three-year record of providing reliable, fast logistics and shipping services for BrilliantPad, the company once again turned to PRIDE for its domestic distribution needs.

The PRIDE Solution

PRIDE employees jumped at the chance to get Chicago PPE’s lifesaving equipment to hospitals and frontline medical personnel. Within days, they had set up a system that would allow them to move quickly when a load came in, while following appropriate social distancing guidelines. Important activities were centralized around one dock, so that product could be picked, labeled, palletized, and staged quickly for outbound carriers.

Because rapid turnaround was so important, PRIDE employees worked hard to accommodate different shipping schedules. That’s why when a load arrived right before UPS and FEDEX deadlines one Wednesday afternoon, PRIDE employees acted quickly. Rather than miss the deadlines, they used their own pickup truck to unload, and had the inventory processed and ready to ship in under an hour.

“I never planned to go into the face mask business. But I knew I had to do something to help out during this pandemic. Fortunately, PRIDE shares this sense of mission, and they’ve gone above and beyond to get those masks where they’re needed. I couldn’t have asked for a better distribution partner.”
